I have always thought since my young age that we are to behave in a certain way. When you give great respect to a traditional value, in my case Japanese, you try fulfilling what society expects ; be kind, generous and overall a good person.
It is not OK not to be perfect. Unfortunately, we are not perfect. I found it is difficult to be consistently perfect. Fortunately, coming to Australia made me value personal perspective and insight.
It’s Ok to be NOT Ok.
My life fortunately has not been plagued by mental health issues that are of any seriousness. I am however aware of how fortunate I am in this regard.
I do however visit a friend weekly who suffers from serious depression. My contribution to our friendship gives him some strength. I like to listen, just listen, not much else.
Just being friends keeps us going. We are all complex human beings.
I care deeply about mental health/depression and speaking out is the best way forward, I am sure.
